Toorak work divides between substantial period houses and contemporary architect-designed builds, and in both the finish is usually specified rather than assumed. We are frequently working to an interior designer or architect rather than directly to a colour the owner picked.
That changes how the job runs. Sample boards get made and approved before anything goes on a wall. Specialist finishes — limewash, Venetian plaster, and two-pack spray on joinery — are not products you can correct after the fact, so the approval happens first and the application happens once. Limewash in particular is unforgiving: it is applied wet on wet and any join that dries before the next pass meets it will show as a permanent lap line.
The other reality is coordination. On a build with cabinetmakers, stonemasons and glaziers still on site, painting is sequenced around everyone else, and the order matters. Joinery sprayed before the stone lands means protecting it for a fortnight; sprayed after, it means masking the stone. Neither is wrong, but it has to be decided rather than discovered.
