Painters in Camberwell
Our own suburb. Federation red brick, Californian bungalows and the odd Victorian near the Junction — we have spent more time on ladders here than anywhere else.
We work across Melbourne’s inner east from a studio in Camberwell. The houses change street by street, and so does the work — here is what we find in each.
Inner east
01
Our own suburb. Federation red brick, Californian bungalows and the odd Victorian near the Junction — we have spent more time on ladders here than anywhere else.
02
Victorian terraces with cast iron lacework, and grand Edwardians further back. Two quite different painting problems inside one postcode.
03
Large period houses on large blocks. Tall elevations, mature gardens in the way, and interior detail that shows every shortcut.
04
Federation and Edwardian homes, much of it inside heritage overlay. Colour is not always a free choice here, and that is worth knowing before you start.
05
Interwar bungalows alongside a great deal of new building. Two eras, two entirely different specifications, often on the same street.
06
Californian bungalow country. Roughcast, shingles, heavy verandah posts and sleepouts — a very particular set of surfaces on one elevation.
07
Interwar and postwar homes, and a great many extensions. Most of the work here involves making old and new read as one house.
08
Victorian and Edwardian houses with ornate cement render detail. Mouldings, cornices and string courses that reward slow work.
09
Victorian terraces off High Street, and the shopfronts along it. Residential and commercial work with quite different working hours.
10
Grand period homes and contemporary architect-designed houses. Specialist finishes, and a standard where the finish is the point.
11
Workers’ cottages, terrace rows and converted warehouses on tight sites. Access is usually the hardest part of the job.
12
Bayside exposure changes everything. Salt, wind and unbroken sun on the western elevations — coatings here work considerably harder.
Not on the list?
These are the suburbs we work in most often, not the limit of where we go. If your house is nearby and the work is the kind we do, ask — the worst outcome is we tell you honestly that it is too far to service properly.

Send through a few photos and what you have in mind. We will come back within one business day with an honest read on the work, the timing and the range it sits in.
